Combining reports into a single PDF

My company has spent the last few months developing a set of complex
financial reports using RS. The goal has always been to package them
into a single PDF, with different users receiving customized versions
of each report (eg, everyone in NY gets #s for the NY office).
We've just learned that if we combine the reports as subreports, we
lose the page headers and footers, and landscape and portrait reports
cannot be combined.
But we still have to deliver the package somehow. Does anyone have an
recommendations? We're looking at:
-Putting the page footers and headers in the report body some way.
-Writing an app to automate Adobe distiller and build the packages
ourselves (but we lose the RS delivery functionality)
-Leaving the reports as separate PDFs, and writing an app that will
print them all, creating the appearance of a single package at least
when printed.

I had a similar problem but I could not resolve it via RS. Here is how I
solved it.
In my c# app I use the Render method for each report and save off its byte
array that is returns into a member variable pdfStream. When the report
generation was complete I then created a pdf with the byte array. Somethign
like this:

private byte[] m_bytResult;
m_bytResult = oRpts.Render(m_sName, GetReportFormat(false), showHideToggle,
m_sDevice, m_oParms, credentials, showHideToggle, out encoding, out mimeType,
out reportHistoryParameters, out warnings, out streamIDs);
// Generate Single PDF From Results of RS Render
string sOut = "myNewReports.pdf";
FileStream stream = File.Create( sOut, bytResult.Length );
stream.Write( bytResult, 0, bytResult.Length );
stream.close;

Looks like I'm going to have to resort to this- write all combinations
of the customized reports to a file structure, combine them per below,
then write a process to email them. Ug.

of people would want to do, if you actually want to be able to log in to
Reports Manager and get a nice clean report every so often (with cover page,
TOC, et al). Otherwise it means RS is really only good for us IT guys. Anyone
from MSFT know if this kind of feature is on the horizon?

column formula

Hi everybody,

I have an company table and it has 2 columns, Company Code and User Code, I am incrementing "User Code" with "column identity" property of MS SQL Server 2K. I have different companies and those companies have different users. When I increment User Code one by one, of course it doesnt consider whether it is the same company or not.

Question 1: How can I satisfy this condition below?

EX:

2---3
2---4
3---5
4---6

What I want is

company user

etc.

A1 One approach in supporting such a business requirement: one may implement a "key assignment" table that privately tracks and assigns user ID numbers for each company.

A2 It is not exactly clear what is meant by a "column formula"? However, the built in MS Sql Server 2k identity column support / functionality likely won't help much in implementing a typical "key assignment" table. (A "key assignment" table approach, as described in A1, would likely be implemented primarily using stored procedures / triggers, and / or user functions).|||/*

Collation Recommendation

I work for an international company and we have to join between databases in different locations. I want a situation where the collations are the same so that we don't have to worry about stating which collation to use in cross server queries. Can someone tell me what we shoud choose. We can't right now change the system to use unicode. If we choose windows collation then does it take the collation of the os on the server? Will we have a problem if different servers have different Windows collations? Is it better to choose a Sql collation and make sure everyone chooses the same one? Thanks for your help.What other DB platforms/collations will you be working with?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'Windows collation'. When creating a new DB in SQL2k, you have the ability to set the code page/collation for that db and 'windows collation' is not an option.|||I can dictate what collation the other servers should use. When you setup the Sql Server you can choose either windows collation and the sort order or choose a Sql Collation and the sort order. What I want to know is whether or not it will simplify things to choose the Sql Collation. It seems to me that if I use the windows collation I may run into problems if the windows collation of the os is different on the other servers.|||Unless I have a reason not to, I use the default (SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS). The 1252 character set, case insensitive, dictionary order, accent sensitive.

Being an international company, though , you may wish to use the 850 (multi-linqual) character set, but I'd stick with case insensitive, dictionary order, accent sensitive, unless you have another reason not to.

Unicode would be preferable, but you've already mentioned that you cannot use it.|||Hi!

by the way anybody knows how to get the list of ordered characters used by the sql server 2k same as the one extracted from the sql7. standard procedure sp_helpsort was used to receive the result at the start of this message, but for sql2k gives slightly different answer as:
